Itinerary

On this live walking tour  I'll take you to Zhengyangmen, a 600-year-old gate in Beijing's historic city wall. It used to guard the southern entry into the Inner City and was called the Gate of the Nation. You'll learn the history of our capital ruled by Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1912) dynasties.

Then I'll tell how we transitioned from the feudal society to communism. Then we'll make a lovely relaxing stroll through famous DaShiLan Street, a throwback to the old imperial city that is still home to some of the oldest and most prestigious emporiums in the town. This area caters to tourists but is a blend of merchants and chefs that seems entirely out of control. Its real gem is that it takes you into the streets of Old Beijing and the Hutongs with tiny shops and local dwellings.
