Itinerary

In 2020, we celebrate 30 years since Nelson Mandela's release into freedom and we invite you to join in the celebration.

Over the course of 90 - 120 minutes, journey through the integral events of Madiba's historical path - from young activist and lawyer to anti-apartheid revolutionary, and subsequently the first democratically elected black President of South Africa. It is with great honour that Beeyonder has been granted exclusive access into Drakenstein Prison where Madiba spent the final 14 months of his 27-year long incarceration.

As you walk through the house, room by room, your guides will reveal some of the stories from within the house where he was confined while the growing sense of his integrity and nobility of character sets in. As we journey through this incredible life and house, learn why Madiba was relocated twice before his release from captivity – from Robben Island to Pollsmoor to Drakenstein, hear of his conduct towards his captors and oppressors, and his sense of humour from insider's memories and stories. See the table where both the terms of Madiba's release as well as the foundations of South Africa's new democratic constitution were negotiated. Touch on the various methods of communication Madiba adhered to, the "bugged" environment he lived within, and the “metamorphosis” of his captors from oppressors to friends and admirers.
