Itinerary

'........When I die, Dublin will be written in my heart.'

James Joyce's love-song to his native city - the novel Ulysses - traces the footsteps and fortunes of Leopold Bloom on a summer's day in Dublin - the 16th June 1904.

Our livestream virtual walking tour will cover most of his itinerary as it is mapped out in Ulysses while explaining the text, and also revealing the subtext, of Joyce's novel.

We visit the locations mentioned in the book, and compare what stands there in the present day with what is described in the pages of Ulysses.

Among the many places we will view and visit are the High School Joyce attended, his local church, Dublin landmarks such as Merchants' Arch and the National Library and also the small hotel where James first met the love of his life, Nora Barnacle.

These places are inextricably woven into the Ulysses narrative because Joyce uses the main characters - Bloom himself and the young Stephen Dedalus - as proxies for his own experiences of, and perspectives on - life in the Irish Capital.

So celebrate Bloomsday by joining me on a stroll around James Joyce's home town, along the exact same route followed by the most famous fictional Jew in history - Dubliner Leopold Bloom.
