Itinerary
The great writer Victor Hugo said in 1849: "There will come a day when the United States of America and the United States of Europe will join hands across the seas". He predicted one of the essential international organizations in the world 100 years before the first European community was created in 1951.
Find out why the European Union was born, its founding fathers, its daily work, its great achievements, and its failures. Explore how its member countries can be united and give up some of their national sovereignty without losing their individual characteristics, cultures, and languages. Stroll through the continent's capital while learning why the most important institutions are located in Belgium.
Highlights:
1. Learn how the former Leopold district, a very bourgeois area from the 19th century, became the current EU affairs district.
2. Begin our tour in Luxembourg Square, where many employees and trainees from the EU come here to network.
3. Discover the democratic institution that Europeans vote for every five years: the European Parliament.
4. Walk through the "old zoo" and the former "small town of science", right in between the European buildings.
5. Explore the institution that creates laws: the European Commission.
6. Find out the role of European prime ministers and politicians from each member country in the European Council and the Council of the European Union.
How Beeyonder Works
What is a virtual tour?
All of our online tours are live and interactive. This means everyone on the tour can speak directly to the guide throughout the tour to experience the destination as if you are actually there.
How To Join A Tour
Easy to use! After booking, you get a unique link to a streaming platform, such as Zoom, to begin each tour. No other technology needed.
Preparing for your Virtual Tour
This is a private Live Walking tour. You will be connected via Zoom and your guide will explain to you all the experiences while walking on the street. We love curious people, so the more questions and interactions you have with your guide, the better!
You need to have the software Zoom installed on your cellphone, tablet, or laptop; and also a stable internet connection, speakers, or headphones.
Also, remember always the time difference when choosing a time for your experience. We usually accept requests starting from 10.00 am to 8.00 pm (Brussels Time - CST + 1 UTC), from Monday to Sunday.
